Stichting De Explorer
This policy explains which personal data we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it and what rights you have. We collect as little as possible, and never more than we need in order to invite you to our gatherings.

Stichting De Explorer is the data controller. We are a foundation registered in the Netherlands with ANBI status.

Stichting De Explorer has not appointed a data protection officer. For an organisation of our size and nature this is not required. You can send privacy questions to info@deexplorer.nl.
When you sign up for a gathering, webinar or open day, we ask for your first name and email address. Your last name, phone number and the type of gathering you are interested in are optional: you may leave them empty. We use this information only to invite you to our gatherings and to send you practical information about them.
Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).
You have to be 16 or older to sign up yourself. That is the age at which, under Dutch law, you can give valid consent for the use of your own data. The form asks you to confirm this. If you are younger, ask a parent or guardian to sign up on your behalf and to write to us at info@deexplorer.nl.
Because signing up for our gatherings says something about your interest in faith, we treat this information as a special category of personal data within the meaning of Article 9 GDPR. For that we ask for your explicit consent (Article 9(2)(a) GDPR). That is the box you tick before you submit the form. For the same reason we keep the list as small as we can and we do not share it with anyone.
If you send us an email, we keep that message and your address for as long as we need it to deal with your question.
Legal basis: legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), namely being able to answer questions that are put to us.
To prevent abuse of the form, we store a hashed version of your IP address with each sign-up. This is a salted hash: the original IP address cannot be recovered from the stored value. We therefore do not keep your IP address. We also record which browser you used.
Legal basis: legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), namely protecting our systems against automated abuse.
We do not sell your data and we do not share it with third parties for commercial purposes. We do use the following service providers, who act as processors on our behalf:

Both Supabase and Webflow build a data processing agreement into their standard terms, which applies automatically to our use of their services. Under that agreement they act as processors and may use your data only on our instructions.
The sign-ups themselves never leave the European Union: they are held in a data centre in Paris. Our website is hosted by Webflow, a company based in the United States, so data you leave on the website itself may also be processed there. Webflow is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and that certification is the basis on which the transfer takes place. Supabase relies on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses for any transfer outside the EU.
We keep your sign-up for as long as you want to hear from us. Unsubscribe and we delete your details, without asking why.
If a sign-up has shown no activity for three years, we delete it ourselves, without waiting for you to ask. We would rather have a short list of people who still want to be on it than a long one full of addresses that have moved on.
We keep emails no longer than we need them to deal with your question, and after that for a maximum of two years in our archive.
You have the following rights regarding your data:
Send your request to info@deexplorer.nl. We will respond within one month.
You can withdraw your consent at any time, without giving a reason. Send a message to info@deexplorer.nl and we will take you off the list. We do not run a mailing system yet; from the moment we do, every email we send will also carry an unsubscribe link. Withdrawal takes effect from the moment you do it and does not apply retroactively to what happened before.
If you disagree with how we handle your data, please tell us first and we will try to sort it out together. You also always have the right to lodge a complaint with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, the Dutch data protection authority, at autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.
No. Signing up is entirely voluntary. Without an email address we simply cannot send you an invitation, and without your consent tick we are not allowed to email you. Your last name, phone number and the question about which type of gathering interests you are optional and you may skip them.
We do not make decisions about you on the basis of automated processing, and we do not build profiles.
Everything we hold about you, you gave us yourself, through the sign-up form or by email. We do not buy mailing lists and we do not gather information about you from other sources.
This website places only functional and necessary cookies, which are needed to make the site work. We currently use no analytics or advertising cookies and we do not track your behaviour across other websites.
We take appropriate measures to protect your data. The sign-up list is not publicly readable: it cannot be reached from the website or from the open internet, only over a secured server connection. Access is limited to the board members who need the details in order to organise a gathering. Traffic to and from this website is encrypted over HTTPS. We store a salted hash of your IP address rather than the address itself, so that even we cannot recover it.
We may amend this policy if the way we work changes. The date at the top shows when the last change was made. For significant changes we will let the people on our list know.
This policy is published in English. Stichting De Explorer is established in the Netherlands and subject to Dutch law and to the supervision of the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
